FAQ
What are the ingredients in DANSOAP?
- All-natural hand crafted coconut oil soap - made through the cold process method, using only natural oils and lye.
- Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash) - a natural water softener that can be extracted from the ash of many plant helps maintain a stable pH level to allow for other cleansing action of the soap to take place.
- Sodium Percarbonate - an oxidizing agent made up of sodium carbonate (water softener) and hydrogen peroxide (cleanser).
- The soap used in ‘DANSOAP 100% Natural Laundry Soap’ is cold processed, using only natural oils and lye. We make our soap the way it’s been done for hundreds of years and allow it to naturally cure before adding it to DANSOAP.
- We then add Soda Ash and Sodium Percarbonate in just the right proportions to give you optimal cleansing power. DANSOAP is effective as a cleanser and stain fighter, but is gentle on fabrics and will not fade your colors.
- All you have to do is add DANSOAP to your laundry machine prior to filling it up with cold, warm, or hot water... then let DANSOAP do the rest. Once the water is filled and the clothes are added, DANSOAP will dissolve and the chemical processes begin.
- All three of our ingredients clean, but they also react with each other to ensure that your clothes are protected and cleaned thoroughly. Our soap will help to keep your clothes soft while maintaining an optimal pH level in your wash basin.
- The Sodium Carbonate assists in balancing the pH, but also works on the grease and grime that clothes seem to attract
- The Sodium Percarbonate goes after those tough stains and heavy soil. As soon as it hits water it breaks into its base components of sodium carbonate, which is commonly used as a water softener, and hydrogen peroxide, which is an effective cleaner that will revert to water and oxygen by the time your wash cycle has finished.
- All of these ingredients break down and easily rinse away, leaving your clothes clean, soft, and fresh.
Is it safe to use with cloth diapers?
- Absolutely! Our natural formula will not damage cloth diapers or their linings. In fact, natural soaps have been shown to actually increase the absorbency of diapers, towels, and other fabrics.
Is it safe for the environment?
- All of the ingredients in DANSOAP break down into water, oxygen, and naturally occurring salts by the end of the washing process and rinse completely out of your clothes.

- Petrochemicals - chemicals and chemical compounds derived from crude oil or other fossil fuels.
- Phosphates - This naturally occurring form of the element phosphorus is an important of a plant's diet. When present in detergents, however, phosphates are washed down our drains and into our fresh water supplies. Phosphates encourage algae to grow at an excellerated rate causing toxic algae blooms and unsafe water conditions. The city of Toledo, Ohio shut down its water supply this past summer due to a toxic algae bloom in Lake Erie.
- Sulfates - These are salts most often prepared from sulfuric acid. Sulfates also include microscopic particles produced in the consumption of fossil fuels that increase the acidity of the atmosphere and lead to destructive acid rain.
- Parabens (parahydroxybenzoates or esters of parahydroxybenzoic acid) - This chemical has been shown to mimic the hormone estrogen, which is widely used as a preservativesby cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. Some studies have shown a link between breast cancer and the presence of parabens.
- Phthalates - These esters of phthalic acid that are mainly used as plasticizers, but many laundry detergents also use them in the "fragrance". Children are especially susceptible to exposure to phthalates and the link that has been made between phthalate exposure and endocrine disruption.
Why do I only need 1 oz of DANSOAP per load? Is that really enough?
